Whats the best oil additive to thicken my oil?
My engine has started to make a ticking noise. It's a high-mileage Vauxhall engine, and the car is only worth a few hundred pounds, so I don’t want to spend much on repairs. Someone mentioned that there are oil additives available that can thicken the oil and help quiet the engine. Does anyone know the best additive for this purpose? Thank you!

lucas oil stabilizer works great. also you could try using some Seafoam in the oil it works great. helps to clean stuff out of lifters and various other areas
but I would highly recommend Lucas
you can pick it up at your local parts store or probably even walmart

Rings could be the problem but so could a stuck pcv valve. See if you can not find a bottle of “no smoke”. It is not much more than a thickening agent for the oil
why put additive in the oil? why not change the oil and go to a heavier oil. if you don,t want to change the oil then get what i got for a car once. i got some cd2 oil additive at auto zone.
If you don’t repair it it will probably go bang and then it won’t be worth anything!
Thickening the oil is not a good idea!
The ticking noise is probably due to sticking valve lifters. Putting in a higher viscosity oil will probably make it worse. Try some valve lifter treatment which will clean the lifters and quiet them down.

howard L is right a thinner oil or engine cleaner will unstick the lifters then fill with castrol fully synthetic 10-60 it makes any engine run quieter with hardly any oil use or burning
i would say go with lucas motor oil additive and to use a thicker weight oil in the car. that way you can cover the vavles and the other motor components better and quiet your sound.
