What’s the biggest West Highland Terrier you’ve ever heard of?

We have a 3-year-old male Westie who has been neutered. His mother only had one litter, and he was the firstborn. He has no skin problems or illnesses, except for a slightly deformed leg. This deformity is purely cosmetic and doesn’t cause him any pain or discomfort. He tends to be quite shy or aggressive around people he doesn’t know, is extremely food-motivated, very headstrong, stubborn, and incredibly protective of those he considers “pack leaders,” such as my mother.

I was wondering what you guys think about him based on his description. He’s the same height as an English Bull Terrier and weighs 17 kilos, similar to some Staffordshire Bull Terriers. His height and weight are almost double what they should be for a typical Westie. Despite his size, he has no fat on him at all—he’s pure muscle. It might sound like he’s overweight, but you can’t even pinch his skin. He’s fed two carefully weighed meals a day and doesn’t get any extra treats or snacks.

Every person who meets him assumes he’s a crossbreed, but I can assure you he’s a purebred Westie—he’s just unusually large. In contrast, our other Westie is the typical small size for the breed. She was bred to be petite, and her mother had multiple litters.

What’s the largest Westie you’ve ever heard of? Could ours be the biggest? Let me know if you think he might be some kind of world record holder!

My first Scottie was oversized (too long for breed standard, big champion lineage BTW) and weighed around 30 pounds. He was pure muscle. We have a Westie in our neighborhood that is a beautiful dog. He is larger than my dog was and I was told he weighed 32-35 pounds. Way oversized.

Sorry to say, and I know you adore your Westie, but he probably isn’t a well-bred dog. Be grateful he doesn’t have skin allergies and he is a healthy, happy guy. Personally, I like the terriers at the top end of their weight range.

I took agility lessons with a lady and her Westie. The Westie looked like a pup, but was a couple of years old. The dog weighed around 9 pounds. Way too small. Fast little dog on the course, but the owner knew she was very poorly bred.

Added: I plugged my numbers into a Kilo converter and the dog above would be in the 14-16 Kilo range.

More added: Like I said, my dog was from excellent lineage and was still too large. My dog was gorgeous and I was approached about breeding, but never did. He did not need to pass these genes along. My breeder was horrified that he grew so large. He was about 2-3 inches too long on the back and pure muscle, pushing his weight above breed standard.

The oversized Westie in my neighborhood is a beautiful dog. I can imagine your guy based on this dog’s size. I’m sure he is a striking dog. I like Westies. They are spunky “little” dogs like my Scots.

One thing however, if he is neutered, why even get a price to stud him?

I adore animals and puppies in distinctive. However, I do not deal with pit bulls in any respect. I feel they will have to be phased out. I comprehend it’s harsh however permit me give an explanation for… Pit bulls are a go breed supposed to be fierce and lethal. They had been constructed to have that powerful draw with the locking mechanism. That coupled with the baiting historical past of the breed which does bring over in animal dna, they are too damaging. Yes there are “great” pit bulls available in the market, however they’re actually ticking time bombs. The slightest factor can set them off and as soon as they’re trigger it’ll cross VERY dangerous. They are an unpredictable breed too, so some thing that has occurred a couple of occasions earlier than, might occur once more with savage outcome. As a word Doberman Pinchers had been preceived in a similar fashion again a couple of many years in the past. However the change it the truth that Pit Bulls have that jaw that’s DEADLY. Plus Dobies do not need a century or extra of abusive coaching and breeding for combating.

My one year old purebred West Highland terrier is 25.5 pounds and just turned one year. I took him to a westie event and he was the largest westie there. He is registered with the Canadian Kennel Club and towers over all of them. I have fed him well and overcame allergies when I picked him up at 8 weeks from the breeder.
