Where can I access a civil war nurse uniform?
I am working on a project for my history class that requires me to read a biography, create note cards, and dress up in attire from that time period. I am specifically interested in dressing as either someone from the year 1846 or as a Civil War nurse. As a girl, I would appreciate any information on where I can access a Civil War nurse uniform. If anyone could assist me with this, I would be very grateful. Thank you!

Civil War nurses didn’t have a uniform, exactly.
They generally dressed like this:

In short, they wore a plain dark-colored cotton “wash dress” of the time with a white apron and usually a white cap to cover their hair. They wore these with the usual underwear of the time–chemise, corset, bloomers and petticoats. Hoopskirts were discouraged, but multiple petticoats were used to give fullness to the skirts.
Dorothea Dix described it thus: “All nurses are required to be plain looking women,” she stated. “Their dresses must be brown or black, with no bows, no curls, no jewelry, and no hoop-skirts.”

I’m doing this project for history class. Need to read a biography, get note cards and dress up as if you were from that time era. I want to dress like either someone from 1846, or a civil war nurse. Please note that I am a girl. If anyone could help, that would be perfect. Thanks.
It was not until the Crimean War (just prior to the American Civil War) women were even allowed to be considered ‘nurses’ in military situations. This is due, in large part to entirely, to Florence Nightingale.
Women who medically ‘nursed’ during the Civil War were usually civilians who opened their homes to the wounded. Such folk often welcomed the wounded from both sides of the dispute without judging or making distinctions. Military surgeons often performed emergency operations with no sedatives on the battlefield and sometimes in the ‘heat of the battle’.
Best to read a history of ‘nursing’ in order to establish premises for questions.
The last person to have people wear emblems was a dictator! slaughtering those who wore them by the millions. Your going to fuel a fire, I would leave it alone. There is enough tension with elections, with race issues and such we really don’t need or can afford to play with. Your lack history does not serve you well. your thinking of a novel idea simply is not one. Your question is a shinning example of why history is doomed to repeat itself.
