This may sound stupid, but I really want a good piece of one for starting fires. Is there a specific store with a specific name that might have it, and also is there some in the woods behind my house? And if so where would it be?

If you live in or near a large city, try Cabala’s or REI. They are great outdoor stores for a flint or much more. You can find them in the outdoors by yourself. I used to turn up any flat stone embedded in a creek (slate or limestone works best, but any stone Will work), turn it over and break off a piece. then cook the stone in an open flame for about an hour to dry it out. This also changes the molecular structure of this. There you go.

There are stones that make spark all ove this continent… some stone does better than other..give this a shot.. go to a streem near you and find it’s old course, dig around and find some stones and break them in half, strike the sharp edge against a iron or steel object, and watch for spark. Tip… if the stone fractures along a smooth plain across the break..it will spark for sure…indians knapped such stones…for points and such… and musket shooter prize them for there flint-locks…not all smooth breaking stone will spark, tho..but dont give up… you will find one that does. Another tip… grainie rocks , or conglomerate rocks, or poorus rocks, or sedimentry rocks can be elliminated rite off..they dont work for nuthin. Look for solid color..dence in weight..and smooth fractureing. If you just dont want to mess with it, and still want to spend your money, ‘starter-kits’ are available at sporting good stores every where..they ar smaller than pocket knives, hang on your belt, and are far away better than stones and steel..cost about 8 bucks.
