Which best defines a diploid cell during meiosis?

Which statement best defines a diploid cell during meiosis?

  • A cell that has twice the number of chromosomes as the parent cell.
  • A cell that has half the number of chromosomes as the parent cell.
  • A cell that has twice the number of chromosomes as the daughter cell.
  • A cell that has half the number of chromosomes as the daughter cell.

Answer is a cell that has double the number of chromosomes as the daughter cell.Meiosis is a method of cell division that occurs in the germ cells (diploid). Meiosis results into formation of gametes (haploid). Therefore, as a result of meiosis the number of chromosome is reduced to half in daughter cells. The meiosis is two -step division process, meiosis I and meiosis II. Meiosis I is reductional division in which homologous chromosome separates, it means diploid cell is converted into haploid.  Whereas meiosis II is equational division similar to mitosis in which two haploid cells divides into four haploid daughter cells.

The correct answer option is C. a cell that has double the number of chromosomes as the daughter cell.Explanation:Meiosis is a two-step division process, meiosis I and meiosis II, where the cell division occurs in the germ cells, also known as diploid cells. It results into the formation of gametes (haploid). Therefore, the number of chromosome is reduced to half in daughter cells as a result of meiosis.

Diploid cells. Meiosis is the process of cell division bywhich involving gametes. Cell division is just the same for sperm and eggcells, but they have distinguishable descriptions and labels in the process. Spermatogenesisis for the males’ sperm cells and oogenesis is the process for females’ eggcells. The cell division of meiosis involves the two phases, respectivelymeiosis I and meiosis II. Meiosis I like mitosis is the cell division thatproduces diploid cells. These diploid cells are cells that contain a completepair of chromosomes which is 46. The result is two diploid cells after thefirst meiosis. To provide clear explanation, in contrast haploid cells onlycontain 23 chromosomes and are created after meiosis II which is 4 in number.

In Meiosis in the end it produces 4 haploid cells which are genetically different. In mitosis in the end it produces 2 diploid cells which are identical to each other. I hope this helped. ?
