D. He denied any knowledge of it.Explanation:In August, Nixon gave a discourse in which he swore that his White House staff was not enɡɑɡed with the break-in. Most voters trusted him, and in November 1972 the president was reelected.  It later became exposed that Nixon was not being honest. At that point, Nixon and his helpers brought forth an arrangement to instruct the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to block the FBI’s examination of the wrongdoing. This was a more genuine wrongdoing than the break-in: It was an abuse of presidential power and a purposeful obstacle of justice.

D) he denied any knowledge of it Explanation:    In June 1972 a group of five men broke into the Democratic Party National Committee located in the Watergate building in Washington. The perpetrators were identified as Republican Party supporters who intended to install wiretapping on site to gain important information from their opponents. In a presidential election year, this maneuver could influence the result of the election. Nixon denied knowing of such activities.     By examining Nixon’s private conversations, the House of Representatives Justice Commission concluded that the President knew of the wiretapping plan and had tried to use his influence to block the Watergate investigations. With this, the authorities accused Richard Nixon of trying to obstruct justice, abuse power and disregard court orders. Meanwhile, public opinion and the media made the president’s situation even worse.
