It managed to invade the small country without any problem and very rapidly. The main reason behind this was that Iraq wanted Kuwait to be part of its territory, thus to have even larger oil reserves and to be one of the major figures in the world's economy. This was not seen fondly by the international community, so there was a quick reaction from the UN, sending coalition troops to push back the Iraqis. The Iraqi military was not strong enough to sustain the coalition troops so it was defeated and Kuwait was freed, though the small country had a lot of damage done on it that short period of time....
