why do people say b’not mitzvah?

I was reading my friends facebook who just had hers and people have been saying this instead of bat or bar mitzvah. I don’t get why?

b’not is a bat mitzvah for more than one girl. Bar is for a boy.Bat is for a girl. B’nai is for more than one, where one is a boy. I have some friends planning a “b’nai mitzvah” for their two children…the older is a boy, the younger is a girl…they are a year apart in age. They will do it when they are 13 and 12 respectively. I have another friend who had triplets: two boys and a girl. They had a “B’nai Mitzvah”. Growing up, I knew a pair of twins (both girls). We didn’t know enough to call it that, but they had a b’not Mitzvah.

Bat Mitzvah is used to mean a party Jewish girls get when they turn 12, but it also is used to refer to a girl who has had her Bat Mitzvah (usually recently). Then if you’re talking about more then one Bat Mitzvah, you would use the plural in Hebrew, B’not Mitzvah.
