Why is it important not to have fingerprints on cuvette when using Genesys 20 Spectrometer?

By using a spectrometer you're measureing the amount of light that the solution in the cuvette absorbs at a certain wavelength, which in turn tells you how much of the solute is dissolved in the solution. If you get fingerprints on the cuvette, this could intefere with the light absorbtion, and thus your readings would be off.... Show More

a spectrometer is sending light through your sample and detecting how much of this light is absorbed by the sample.so if you add fingerprints (or any other type of extraneous material, like precipitate) that block light going through the sample, you will be changing this measurement. if you change the measurement you will not be able to repeat the experiment and get the same results....
