Will red henna color dark brown hair?
I have very dark brown hair, and I'm considering coloring it half red in an ombre style. I prefer to avoid chemical dyes, so I'm curious if red henna would be a suitable option. I'm not expecting a bright red result, but would the color be noticeable? Alternatively, could it make my hair appear even darker? Additionally, do you have any photos of individuals who have used red henna on dark hair? Thank you!

Auburn.

Right side of the screen is red to brown to black hair. Read the descriptions, as some are pure henna and some are henna/other plant mixes.
Here’s a good example of pure henna on a brunette: http://www.hennaforhair.com/mixes/kaia/
And this pic is good for comparison, the same henna paste on someone with almost totally white hair on the left, and someone with dark brown hair on the right. http://www.hennaforhair.com/mixes/lisaa/
You can see it’s not dramatic on brunettes, it’s a subtle red warmth that over time can build up into a serious dark red. After lots of henna, your hair will look fiery with the sun directly behind you, but since henna’s translucent your hair will never actually lighten. Still worth if for the warm color and amazing shine, in my opinion, even on black hair.

RE:
Will red henna color dark brown hair?
I have very dark brown hair, but I wanted to color it half red (like ombre). I don’t like chemical ones, so I was wondering if red henna would work.
I’m not expecting a bright red or anything like that, but would it be a relatively noticeable color? Or would the red not show up at all, and…
The others are correct – good henna will dye even over dark hair, but be more noticeable as a red glow in daylight than under indoor lights, for instance. My hair is naturally a dishwater mousy brown, and I’ve got the length saturated so it’s a deep burgundy color – but in daylight it GLOWS. The more often you henna your length, the darker it will get overall, to a point. You really can’t go to dark dark brown or black, but the color will cool down from reds into burgundy and this cherry-cola sort of color – almost a cool purply-red, after a long time of using it. You don’t HAVE to go that far, but that’s as far as you can get without adding other stuff.

Yes, red henna will work over dark brown hair. Usually it makes it like a dark cherry red color. The good thing is, if it’s not the desired color you want after one use, you can try again in a few days since there is no chemicals. Here a video of a girl who has dark hair and her hair after one use:

Here is lots of photos in link below. What you need to do is just keep dying the ends half way with pure henna or red henna. It will show up. Dark color makes it harder to show up but you can pull it off. Very smart about not using chemicals.
I colored my dark brown hair with red henna and now it’s 50% red and 50%brown. At first sight you would say I’m a brunette but in the sun it’s only red. Almost like a mahogany color. I didn’t have REALLY dark brown hair before but quite dark. I’m really happy with it anyways:)
It should be able to work with your dark brown hair. I have black hair and i but dark red henna in it and it showed up.(only in the sun light though)
The link bellow will show you what your hair MIGHT look like
when your done with dying it! Hope this Helped ?
Without bleaching I don’t think it will do much to your hair other than possibly a very dark brown- red, or a red sheen in your hair when in the sun :/
If you’re going to dip dye your hair, just use normal dye. It won’t damage your hair too much unless you’re bleaching your hair, and since its not near your roots you should be safe!
Hope this helped! Feel free to email me if you need any more help, good luck x
