Yamaha FZ6R vs. Yamaha YZF-R6 (a.k.a. R6)?
I have a strong appreciation for both the Yamaha FZ6R and the Yamaha YZF-R6 (commonly referred to as the R6), but I realize I will eventually need to choose between the two. What are the major differences between these motorcycles? From my understanding, one is designed for sport touring while the other is a super sport bike. However, they seem to share the same engine and many similar components. They even come in the same colors. I'm currently leaning towards the R6 primarily because of its aesthetics. Could someone help clarify the distinctions between these two models?

The YFZ is geared lower and has probably around 75-80 HP, and the R6 with the higher gering has around 115 HP. The YFZ is not a full on sport bike, longer single seating, and upright position…a much better bike for someone newer to sportbikes.

The FZ6R is not only differently geared it has an older detuned R6 engine, even so for a do-it-all bike, compared to the older model Fazer, it lacks mid-range. It is not alone in this, the R6 also needs to reach the heights of its rev range to really get going – but when it does they really do go.
Although they have a similar heritage they do not share many same parts – the FZ has cheaper (but capable) suspension and frame, they do share brakes.
The FZ is a bike built for all uses, it will tour, it will scratch, it will commute, it will carry a pillion – it won’t compete on a track with the R6.
Of the two the FZ is more suited for a novice – but it is not ideal, there are better options.

Sort of the the animal engine-wise (only a few changes I can think of. The gearing is a bit taller on the FZ and a little different water-pump routing)
So it really depends on your riding style.
The FZ is more of a sports-tourer, where as the YZ is more just plain sports oriented.
