Algebra/ trig help please?

For a particular angle theta, the cosine function has the following values within one cycle: cos(0) = 3, cos(π/4) = 0, cos(π/2) = -3, cos(3π/4) = 0, and cos(π) = 3. What is the rule for the cosine function?

The options are: 1. Y = (1/3) cos(2θ) 2. Y = 2 cos(3θ) 3. Y = 3 cos(θ/2) 4. Y = 3 cos(2θ)

Please explain how to arrive at the answer, as I am having difficulty understanding this concept. Thank you for any help! 😊

at theta =0, cos ntheta = 1

only answer 3 and 4 agree with this

at theta = pi/4 (45deg) cos = .707, cos 2theta = 0, cos theta/2 =.924

only eq 4 agrees with this.
