“Incendies” (2010), directed by Denis Villeneuve, states that the play on which the movie is based is not a true story but is inspired by events that occurred during the Lebanese Civil War in the 1970s. The character of the mother was inspired by a real Palestinian woman who was incarcerated for ten years in a small jail in Lebanon after attempting to assassinate a military chief in the 1980s.
