Was the movie "Incendies" based on a true story? Could members please provide an answer? I'm curious about the historical context and any real-life events that may have inspired the film.

“Incendies” (2010), directed by Denis Villeneuve, states that the play on which the movie is based is not a true story but is inspired by events that occurred during the Lebanese Civil War in the 1970s. The character of the mother was inspired by a real Palestinian woman who was incarcerated for ten years in a small jail in Lebanon after attempting to assassinate a military chief in the 1980s. Both the movie and the play are set in a fictional country in the Middle East. Filming took place in Quebec, Canada, and Amman, Jordan.
