''In a world without gold, we might've been heroes'', how can you not understand this? Gold made him evil, greedy, insane, etc. He would be a Hero not an Insane gold loving greedy insane Pirate Legend if there would've been no money.

If you read Rediker s "The villains of all nations" it goes on to explain that the priority of pirates was not mere treasure. Treasure was a bonus to their number one intent which was freedom. Blackbeard was a privateer, which is a sailor that uses the same tactics as a pirate, but it s justified because they are sponsored by the crown and instructed to only fight the spanish or french. Once the war ended they had only this skill set but no where to implement it so they made their own way. They found it better than other alternatives. My personal interpretation is that Blackbeard died fighting for the cause of freedom, it was the first real threat of independence from the empires of Europe, then the revolution followed in America. These lines to me are saying that Blackbeard was misunderstood because of treasure. If it was about treasure the incidence (incidence which really happened) for the Medicine s would not have been such a priority were it not to preserve Nassau and their new republic. Had their been no gold the real heroic character of Blackbeard would have been seen. And my opinion is it would have been an image similar to that of the "founding fathers". However, it wasn t primarily because Pirates like Blackbeard weren t educated and their only skills were from spending years as sailors so when it came to stating the things they needed they didn t know how. But that could just be my bold assertion.

i dont know about the scene or anything because i stopped played after brotherhood. However it sounds like he is saying the only reason he did..something was because of gold. That if there was no gold he would not have become greedy and evil. He's also saying perhaps he could have even been a hero/ good guy.

This is the ideals of a true pirate in the real world minimal shots were fired when a pirate took a ship in fact there was no record of the real Blackbeard fighting till the Govenor of North Carolina ordered his death during his blockade if you served a ruthless British Navy wouldn't you rather the promise of gold and equality as a pirate a true democracy but history is written by the victor
