In the 2004 movie "Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story," White Goodman (Ben Stiller) forms his own elite dodgeball team to oppose Peter La Fleur's (Vince Vaughn) team.
Members of Goodman's team, known as the "Purple Cobras," include Blade, Laser, Blazer, Me'Shell (fitness consigliere), and Fran Stalinofskivitchdavitovichski.
The movie tells the story of two unlikely individuals, Peter La Fleur and White Goodman. Peter is characterized as an underachiever, a procrastinator, and the owner/operator of Average Joe's Gymnasium, a decaying and neglected gym in a large city.
Peter's employees and members include Owen, a man who struggles to find love; Dwight, a boastful know-it-all; Gordon, a nervous and semi-shy person who is a fan of obscure sports; Justin, a high school geek; and Steve, a pirate in search of treasure.
In order to save their beloved local gym from the onslaught of a corporate health fitness chain, they enter a dodgeball competition in Las Vegas. Domestically, the movie earned more than $114 million on a reported budget of $20 million.

Dodgeball is a team sport that, like any other team sport, requires a certain amount of strategy to win. While it is possible to win by simply going all out in a free-for-all scenario, more experienced teams will quickly eliminate you. To win against the best, you must play like the best.
Here are several strategies that you need to be aware of to succeed in dodgeball, as outlined by Howtheyplay.com:
• Throw as a team: Solo throws are often seen among rookie players. You should call out the number of balls your team has at any given time. If you have more than one ball, coordinate your team to throw at a single target simultaneously. This is much harder to catch or dodge and makes you appear more professional. Develop your own cues and calls so the opposition cannot predict who you are about to throw at.
• Spread out: If your entire team is clustered in one area, it will be harder to dodge incoming balls and much easier for the opposition to hit someone—they can simply lob it in your general direction!
• Stay back and away from the sidelines: Being too close makes you an easy target, while being too far back allows your own throws to be easily dodged. You should move forward (as a team, remember) when you throw your balls, and move back to avoid counterattacks. Stay away from the edges of the court, as this limits your dodging space.
Apart from these general rules, there are specific strategies employed by top dodgeball teams:
• Eliminate stronger throwers first.
• Aim at players in the corners to force them to step out of bounds.
• Hold a ball behind your back for a teammate to grab and throw. If the opposition does not know who has the balls, they are easier to hit. Even if you do not have a ball, hold your hands behind your back to deceive the opposition into thinking you might.
• Do not celebrate hits. The opposition will be vulnerable immediately after losing a player, so follow up with some low, fast throws.
• Practice plays where balls are passed between players, or where players cross paths before throwing.
• If you are the last one standing, crouch down and hold a ball to deflect incoming hits. This makes you harder to hit (as you are a smaller target) and may give you a chance to catch a ball. When all of the balls have been deflected onto your side, you can go on the offensive.
