I purchased an Amazon Prime subscription for $99, but I was charged $107.91. Is this correct? Could the difference be attributed to taxes or other fees?

Amazon collects tax in some states. So if you live in a state like Indiana in which Amazon collects sales tax then yes, you are charged sales tax on your Prime Membership.
If they have a nexus in your state they have to collect sales tax on all taxable goods and services.
