What does the cross symbol mean on nutrient fact labels?
What does the cross symbol mean on nutrient fact labels? I recently noticed a cross symbol on the nutrient facts label of a food product and am unsure of its significance. Could someone explain what this symbol represents and why it is included on the label? Thanks in advance for your help!

According to sources, the small cross on nutrition facts labels (often referred to as a "dagger" symbol) may represent two things.
It can be used to indicate a footnote when an asterisk has already been utilized or to denote ingredients that do not have firmly established daily values.
The nutrition label for a dietary supplement is called a "Supplement Facts" panel.
Dietary ingredients for which no daily values have been established must be listed by their common or usual names when they are present in a dietary supplement. They must be identified as having no daily values by using a symbol in the column for "% Daily Value" that refers to the footnote "Daily Value Not Established."
People examine food labels for various reasons. Regardless of the reason, many consumers would like to know how to use this information more effectively and easily.
For more information, please refer to the FDA's "How to Understand and Use the Nutrition Facts Label" and "Dietary Supplement Labeling Guide."
