Can you do your taxes with last pay stub?
Can I use my last pay stub to file my taxes? If so, what details should I ensure are included, and are there any potential drawbacks to this approach?

I file my taxes without my W2 every year. I’m just too impatient to wait for the company to send it to me. As long as you have your last paycheck of the year with all of the year to date totals and if you e-file using a site online (I use taxactonline). The only trouble that I am having this year is I paid my medical insurance with pre-tax dollars, so I’m not doing it this way for this year. As long as you don’t have anything too complicated it should be easy. The source I listed below gives you step by step instructions on how to file taxes without a W2. Good Luck!

You must wait for W2 and 1099s before filing your tax return.
Earliest you can e-file is Jan 15, 2010. You can send paper return even now, but IRS will not start processing it before Jan 15, 2010.
Employers/companies must mail W2 or 1099 by Feb 2, 2010. If you do not receive it by Feb 15, then you can call IRS.
If you file based on last pay slip or do not report any income, you may have to file amended tax return Form 1040 if there is any different figure in W2 or 1099 or you do not report all your income. For example, you receive another W2 after you have filed.
You can figure out what you owe-are being refunded by your last pay stub….but you need your W-2 to actually file your taxes. Last pay check amount and W-2 should be the same.
It is possible if the company does not give you the correct forms.
The government will accept your return with documentation, and the pay stubs will do, when a company either does not supply the W-2 or it is incorrect.
I worked for a company once that understated my earning, which allowed them to keep my with holding and Soc.Security payments.
The I.R.S. paid me the correct refund with the pay stubs as documentation with out the correct W-2.
Yes, if your tax situation isn’t too complicated, your last pay stub will do. And if you file electronically, you can even file your taxes without a W-2. But you have to be pretty sure that nothing on your W-2 will be different.
You can figure out what your return would be, but you can’t file until you get the W-2. You employer has until Jan 31 to mail it out so you need to have a little patience.
No. You’ll need the employer tax id codes to complete your taxes. Those aren’t on your pay stub.

It would be illegal. You might or might not get away with it, and if not, would have to file an amendment. Wait for your W-2.
