Can you play XBox 360 games without internet connection?

I just got an XBox 360 Slim console and as I turn it on, I’m setting up everything (what language I want, etc.) However, it’s asking me for internet connection when I try to recover my gamertag. Is it possible to play games WITHOUT internet? Like just inserting the disc into the console and play it. Please help.

yes you sure can! You can play all the games you want. You don’t need an internet connection for anything. The only reason why you need an internet connection is to play online multiplayer games or to access additional media with the xbox.

It all depends on the game. I can play Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas on my Xbox 360, but not Tony Hawks Underground Skating 2. I am not sure what determines if a game is playable from Xbox to Xbox 360, all I know is some work, and some dont. Internet Connection has nothing to do with it.
