The Stamp Act was imposed on the colonies for England to get much needed money. Items could only be sold withe a Tax stamp on the item. Parliament needed the money in 1765 to pay for the French and Indian War (1754-1763). The colonies boycotted English manufactured goods. The manufactures forced Parliament to drop the Stamp Tax. Parliament said they could pass an act anytime they wanted to, the colonies ignored the threat.,
The cause of the adoption of the stamp act was to raise money to help pay for the French and Indian war and for the ongoing expense of keeping British troops in North America.
The effect was felt before the law even went into effect. The colonies agreed on a boycott of British goods, stamp collectors hadtheire houses torn apart and were paraded through the streets and forced to resign their position. When the law went into effect it was mostly ignored. Within 6 months the law was repealed but the nature of the law left a bad taste in the mouths of the colonists.
Cause- England parliament implented the Stamp act so they could raise money to pay for war debts (French Indian War)
Effect- Ended up America boycotting and being blockcaded from their ports in Massachusetts.
