I was watching VH1 100 greatest 80’s songs and the song Tainted Love was on the list but it was by a band named Soft Cell. I’ve always thought that Depeche Mode sang that song… did Depeche Mode make a cover of it or am I mistaken?

Nope. You’re mistaking Dave Gahan for Marc Almond who actually sang Tainted Love. There are several versions that he’s done of the song though.

I always heard the soft cell version and have never heard of Depeche Mode covering it. I found this on the web.
