Did top gear (UK) really find the source of the Nile river?
Did "Top Gear" (UK) really find the source of the Nile River?
I would appreciate it if you could watch both episodes of this two-part journey special before answering. I am particularly interested in a critique of Jeremy’s method of finding the source (not Victoria’s) and the conclusion of the two-part special.
Here are the links to the episodes:
-
Season 19, Episode 6 (Part 1): Link (Please note that the entire episode isn’t dedicated to the journey; there is a segment around halfway through for Top Gear News, as well as the “Star in a Reasonably Priced Car” activity. The journey picks up again towards the end.)
-
Season 19, Episode 7 (Part 2): Link (This episode is entirely dedicated to the journey, so it won’t be interrupted.)
I kindly ask that you watch all of both episodes, as I value professional insights and critiques. Thank you!

“Yes and no. Using the definition of the source as furthest tributary from the final destination of the river, Top Gear’s logic is that the destination of the Nile’s water is the Atlantic Ocean, ultimately, and not terminating at the Mediterranean Sea. Thus, while they were unsuccessful in finding anything south of Lake Victoria (further from the Sea), according to their logic, anything to the east that connects to the lake would be furthest from the Ocean and thus the true source of the Nile. However, what is really up for dispute is claiming that the Nile can be considered to terminate at the ocean, when the river itself clearly flows into the sea.” (megacookie of Reddit)
It’s possible. The Nile flows into the Med, which, in turn, flows into the Atlantic. If they didn’t find any further source of water, then it may very well be THE source. There may be others, though.
As usual, though, our three heroes made it very entertaining, and ending both episodes with the theme tune from the movie, Zulu (1964), was a stroke of genius. I’m surprised no one has complained that they used this piece of music, clearly from a time when Queen Victoria’s soldiers were still bent on conquest and colonization. Weird, that.

they found a start of a river, which they claim to be the start of the nile, however the source of the nile is disputed, and will be for a long long time
^ well if the Nile FLOWS into the river doesn’t that mean it’s exiting meaning not the SOURCE.
