Displacement vectors of 3m and 5m in the same direction combine to make a displacement vector that is 2m?? How?? Why isn’t it 8m?
I have a question regarding displacement vectors. If I have two displacement vectors of 3 meters and 5 meters that are in the same direction, how can they combine to create a resultant displacement vector of only 2 meters? Shouldn't the total displacement be 8 meters instead? I would appreciate any clarification on this concept. Thank you!

There’s a mistake.
Displacement vectors of 3m and 5m in the same direction combine to make a displacement vector that is 8m.
Displacement vectors of 3m and 5m in opposite directions combine to make a displacement vector that is (magnitude) 2m.
