The differences between the Oldsmobile Alero GL, GX, and GLS lie in their engines and trims. The GL is the mid-grade model, the GX is the entry-level model, and the GLS is the top-line model.

The Oldsmobile Alero debuted in 1999 as a replacement for the Achieva. The GX and GL models came standard with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that produced 150 horsepower and 155 pound-feet of torque. The 3.4-liter V6 engine, which generates 170 horsepower and 200 pound-feet of torque, is optional on the GL and standard on the GLS.

The Oldsmobile Alero is available as a sedan or coupe and is considered by many to be a sporty-looking car due to its bulging wheel wells, sleek greenhouse, fluted side panels, and large “jewel-like” taillights. Although it failed to truly captivate the hearts and minds of consumers or achieve many conquest sales, the Oldsmobile Alero’s small car story concluded on an upbeat note with a stylish and decently designed effort.

Recently, more than 350 classic Oldsmobile cars set the stage in Springfield, IL, for the Oldsmobile Club of America’s National Meet, a four-day event that kicked off at the Crowne Plaza. The event includes car displays, cruises around town, a night of drag racing at the Central Illinois Dragway in Havana, chapter meetings, and a swap meet where auto enthusiasts can buy, sell, or trade hard-to-find car parts and supplies.
