Entropy of a piece of burning wood?

How does the entropy of a piece of wood change as it burns? Does it increase, decrease, or remain the same? Please explain your reasoning.

increases

think of entropy as randomness. the wood has a particular order to it. when you burn it, you convert all the cellulose in the wood to CO2 and H2O and some NxOy. and those molecules are released into the atmosphere and scatter. randomness is increased.

Entropy is a measure of the DISorder of a system (in this case the wood). In this situation, the wood is being burned, and potential energy is being released, and the ordered wood becomes disordered carbon dioxide and water vapor. This leads to the entropy increasing.
