foamy power steering fluid?

I have noticed a small amount of power steering fluid accumulating on top of the cap, which appears to be coming from a pressure release hole in the cap. The fluid has a foamy texture, as if it has been agitated. Additionally, I can feel my steering wheel shuddering and hear the power steering motor whining when I turn the wheel, both while stationary and while driving. The steering feels off, almost as if it is a bit looser than usual. What could be causing these issues?

There is air trapped in the power steering lines. This can happen after having power steering service done if the mechanic did not purge the air from the system. It should go away in a day or so but be sure to keep an eye on the fluid level in the reservoir as it may go down as the air bleeds out.

If you just changed it this is normal, there is air in the system. Leave the cap off while running the engine. Turn the steering wheel slight left to right to get the air out. Recheck fluid level and you should be good to go.

Most common cause is the (pump).I do not think it has a motor for PS.There is also the possibility of a bad or restricted suction hose.It also could be a rack going out and causing relief pressure to foam the oil. Is it the proper fluid?

first i would check the fluid level, that usually is the whinning noise, if not that i would try to change out the fluid in the pump. it sounds like there is air in the system. that would make it foamy and not work as well. make sure you bleed the system very well. the best thing would be to by a haynes manual and follow the directions exactly.

You need to bleed it. Start the car, have someone turn the wheel all the way left, then right, with the cap off, keep on doing it until there are no bubbles. And make sure it is not over filled.
