Is there a difference between "gnome" and "knome" aside from the spelling? Are there historical, cultural, or other origins that explain the different spellings? It may seem like a silly question, but I’ve been challenged to find the answer, and I hope to clarify this distinction. Thank you!

When you spell “gnome” as “knome” it is either because you really don’t know how to spell it and are working phonetically from what you DO know ( “know” is sort of like “knome”) or you think it’s a cute and individualistic way to spell it. There is no historical significance. If you Google “garden knome” it will direct you to “garden gnome” making the assumption that you simply can’t spell correctly.
