Garden Gnome: Gnome vs Knome – difference?

Question

Gnome ~vs~ Knome – is there a difference other than the choice of spelling? Are there historical, cultural, or other roots to the different spellings? ???Perhaps a silly question, yet, I’ve been put to a challenge to find the difference & I hope to find the answer. Thanks

When you spell “gnome” as “knome” it is either because you really don’t know how to spell it and are working phonetically from what you DO know ( “know” is sort of like “knome”) or you think it’s a cute and individualistic way to spell it. There is no historical significance. If you Google “garden knome” it will direct you to “garden gnome” making the assumption that you simply can’t spell correctly.
