Glycerin in recipe- is it edible?
I am making rolled fondant and the recipe I’m using calls for two tablespoons of glycerin. I purchased some at the pharmacy, but the label states “FOR EXTERNAL USE ONLY.” Is all glycerin like this? Did I get the wrong type? The brand is Swan, and it’s just your average bottle of glycerin. The label also warns that in case of accidental ingestion, I should consult a doctor or poison control center immediately. That certainly raises concerns about consuming it! Is it safe to use 2 tablespoons of this glycerin in my fondant?

DO NOT USE THAT GLYCERIN………. go to the grocery store and in the cake,jello isle there should be glycerin there….. use THAT glycerin.

Go to the grocery store or to a craft store (like Michael’s). They have glycerin that can be used for cooking. Glycerin is commonly used in things like fondant.
