Hair toner on brown hair?
My hair is light brown, but in sunlight, it appears brassy with orange and gold tones. Can I use a hair toner to eliminate these tones? If toner isn't a viable option, what alternatives are available? I want to clarify that if I were to use toner, I do not want to bleach my hair. I plan to visit a hairdresser soon, but I would like to have some information beforehand. My goal is to permanently get rid of these brassy tones without stripping my hair, and I want to maintain my brunette color without transitioning to blonde.

Don’t laugh, because you see I’m a guy answering this. My fiancee is sitting here with me, and she saw your question. I am relaying the answer, because she used to do hair and makeup:
She said to use an “Ash” color. Light Ash Brown, Medium Ash Brown, or Dark Ash Brown. You can use one of the haircolors in the stores. She said that the ash-part, is the part that gets rid of the red/orangey tones. She said that when anyone had your problem, that they would use the ash families. She said it may even say that on the box (that it gets rid of red/orange tones.) The ones to use are the regular haircolor boxes in the stores, and you don’t have to go to a beauty supply, either. Try the L’Oreal ones, which are the better ones, like “L’Oreal Preferance”. There, I said it. And please don’t tell any of my buddies that I answered this question under my profile name!

Hair toner on brown hair?
My hair is light brown, but in the light and sun it looks a brassy orange/gold colour. my question is can a hair toner be used to get rid of this or if not, what can? ( if i was to the toner i do not want to bleach my hair) Im hopefully going to visit a hairdresser soon, but i just want to know…
Yes, toners are often used with blonde shades, as i’m assuming you already know. However toners can be used on all shades of hair. Toners are used when you are wanting to change the tone of the hair (hence the name) while allowing the natural color of the hair to shine through. So in your case i think that is exactly what you are wanting. You would want to use a toner with a violet base to cancel out the brassiness.

Ok Redken EQ Shades have an “activator” which is basically a developer. What you should do is mix half and half of the 09N and the 09V, but V shades neutralize yellows and golds more then reds, if available try getting an EQ that has green undertones, bc green neutralizes red way better then a violet will. Either way, wash your hair and towel dry it. Then mix the color/activator and put it on your hair. Really work it in, and it should take only about 5-10 min to neutralize, make sure you are watching it because you dont want to leave it on too long. But make sure you are careful not to get it on the highlights, because you dont want them to change color. Good luck, im sure you will do a good job!
I was born with blonde hair so i think i actually look fine thats the way i was born
its not about personality, it just what people want to do. anyway be careful cuz sometimes dying hair black doesnt alwayz come out right, i’ve seen it before
