has anyone heard of shanking meaning to pants someone.?

Has anyone heard of the term "shanking" being used to mean "to pants someone"? A teenager on my son's bus threatened to shank him, and I spoke with the assistant principal, who explained that "shanking" now refers to pulling down someone's pants. I’m concerned about my children's safety, so I have decided to drop them off at school and pick them up in the afternoon instead of allowing them to ride the bus.

No...I've always known it to mean a stabbing by a makeshift knife, called a shank.

I got the following off of the site Yahoo sent me to for a definition. You have every reason to be shaken up. Shank is prison talk for stab. You need to make sure your assistant principal is not hiding a situation at your child's school; therefore, you should get the police involved.

Good luck in getting this sorted out.

I would call the police and ask them what they believe a threat of 'shanking' means. As well as asking your son what he believes it to mean.

Either way, if your son is being intimidated into not being able to ride the school bus something should be done by the school regarding the other student.

Teenagers are old enough to know that the term 'shanking' means stabbing.

Are you thinking of de-pants someone? To pants someone would be putting pants on him or her. Shanking is just the school kids' term for it. The nature of the act is antisocial, they wouldn't use the right term for it. That wouldn't be reckless and fun.

Don't run to the administration and demand justice. Let them know about it, but it's part of the social aspect of school. He's going to have to learn to stand up to people, or he'll have a hard time succeeding in his life and career.

I had to ride the bus when I was a kid in Texas. Kids can be wild on the bus, but I always sat quietly in the front of the bus. The kids who would 'pants' someone sit in the back. In a way, they are assigning themselves to their place in society, at least in their head.

like others who hhave responded to your question a shank is a homade knife or equivilent used to stab someone (prison slang) i would update your assistant principle on this bit of info. i would go to the principal about this and keep working your way up until you get some resolution on the problem. yes taking and dropping the kids off at school is a good idea. but persue this no child deserves to be terrorized in this way policemans son or not

To straight up gangsta stab someone holmes! Shanking means nowadays to stab someone, look it up in anything that has to do with popular culture. Sad but true, shanking no longer in this day and age means to "pull someones pants down." I would personally talk to the principal of the school and make sure that they know what this means. Cuz getting shanked aint the shiz!

Have you asked any of the other Teens in your area what that means? I know definitions do tend to change from one generation to another. (I'm 50 raised 3,and have 9 grandchildren)

But if it does still mean stabbing someone: Action needs to be taken! The Principle needs to pull each child in the office for questioning(individually), have a conference with all Parents involved, and decide what to do about the situation. And remember : Your own children could be instigating something!

Don't waste time doing checking in to the matter. After all there are other kids on the bus.

Kids have been goofing around "pants-ing" each other forever, but if you are really worried a bully is going to harm your son, I think you are doing the right think driving you children to school. They get into too much mischief on those busses. Don't "freak out" over the pants thing. If you have found out who the other kid's father is, just give him a call and tell him you're concerned.

Have you thought about home-schooling your kids?

Seriously, I'd be issuing restraining orders for that kid that made the threat. If he really wants to "shank" your kid, just keeping them off the bus won't be enough. I agree with the post-er that mentioned taking it to the media if no one at the school will take you seriously.

Oh, and you might consider teaching your kids some self defense. Martial arts, perhaps.

I used to be a SCHOOL BUS DRIVER...

Shanking most certainly does not mean to "pants" someone. In this day and age it means to stab someone with a sharp object; be it a regular knife, or something sharp, hand-made to resemble a knife.

If you get nowhere with the principal of that school, I would immediately contact the school district's DIRECTOR OF TRANSPORTATION and explain the severity of this threat and that it be addressed ASAP!!!

Then, there is always the local newspaper...

But, don't give up until someone takes this issue seriously. After the fact................................it could be too late!!!
