The Free Soilers came to Kansas in the 1800's. They came for several reasons, but the main reason was to ensure that Kansas voted to become a free state. The Free Soilers didn't stay long as a political party and eventually got picked up into the Republican party. The Free Soil Party was a short-lived political party in the United States active in the 1848 and 1852 presidential elections as well as in some state elections.
