Sade (born Helen Folasade Adu on January 16, 1959, in Ibadan, Nigeria) was never jailed; however, she was arrested in February 1997 when she failed to pull over for police in Jamaica.
Some months later, after failing to appear in court to face those charges, an arrest warrant was issued. The warrant was eventually "stayed" when she was able to prove that her child was in the hospital, making it impossible for her to attend the hearing.
Despite being a recluse in the Cotswolds in the UK, the Daily Mail is reporting that she is outselling Adele here in the US. In fact, Forbes magazine just listed Sade as one of the top 10 highest-paid women in music today; she is ranked #8, making $33 million, just behind Madonna at #9, who is making $30 million.
