How do prisoners shave in prison?

How do prisoners shave while incarcerated? Are they allowed to use razor blades, or are there alternative methods provided for personal grooming?

By using razors. In the state prison system where I work, the state provides single blade Bic razors. Depending on the security level of the prison, there are different procedures.

For example, in the medium security prison where I currently work, the inmates are issued two razors every time they get a commissary purchase. (Every two weeks) The next time that they have a commissary purchase, they have to turn in the two razors so they can get two new ones. The razors are checked when they are turned in to make sure that the blades are intact.

At a previous prison where I worked, the inmates had two times during the day where they could be issued a razor. They traded their ID card for a razor, and when they returned the intact razor after use, they received their ID card back. In the maximum security SHU (Special Housing Unit) of that same prison, the inmates were only offered a razor during their shower times. (Every two days) And they were locked in the shower stall (basically a small cell) while they used it.

They are allowed razors during shower time. They are checked out before and returned after.

If a prisoner is high risk, they can give him a hair removal foam similar to Nair.

They get razors but they're supposed to return them to the guards. But somethings they break it and smuggle the blade part back to their cells to make a weapon.
