How do you cope with the pain of a palatal expander?
My palate expander has been adjusted for almost two weeks now. Wednesday will mark the two-week point, but for specific reasons, I am going to the orthodontist on Monday to see if the expansion has been sufficient. Today, I turned the device around 6:30 PM, and it's causing me a lot of pain! I'm not sure why, but it feels like my front two teeth have been hit by an elephant's trunk! What can I do to relieve this pain I am experiencing?

I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had a palette expander for a year. For the first 2 or 3 weeks I hated it so much I tried to pull it out.
Take aspirin, or alieve. That’s what i took and it worked ease the pain.
I know this sounds like it’s not true, because I didn’t believe it when people told me this, but you get so used to it being in your mouth it’s like it’s not even there.
And the tightening starts to be easy to handle. You’ll be fine.
PS – the best feeling in the world is when it comes off! your mouth feels HUGE!

How do you cope with the pain of a palatal expander?
My palate expander has been turned for almost 2 weeks. Wednesday would be two weeks, but for some specific reasons I am going to the orthodontist Monday to see if it is enough expanshun. (No idea how to spell =).) Anywho… Today I turned it around 6:30 or so and it is causing so much pain! I dont…
I think that I took motrin. I would try something like that.
It sucks for the first 2-3 weeks but after a while you get used to it. Trust me. The only problem is eating spaghetti (it gets stuck and it’s a pain….)
Anyways, the turning becomes easier and after a while you just feel it pulling and there’s a little tension and that’s it.
I know where you’re coming from, but it’s epic legitness when you get it off!!!! Hang in there and take motrin or some sort of other pain relieve and if none of those seem to help then try asking your orthodonist what you can take…..there may be a problem so you need to let them know. That way you don’t have to go through it twice!!! O_o
Hope that I helped!!! Hang in there!!!!
I feel your pain.
Currently, I have an expander. I’ve had it for two weeks now. I barely notice its there now. But like you, I feel pain in my front teeth due to tightening it. Usually to relieve the pain, I eat something cold like ice-cream or yogurt. For me it kind of numbs it a bit, and keeps my mind off of it. Either that or I take Tylenol or Ibuprofin. You could also try Naproxen Sodium. It’s a pain pill that lasts all day.
I had one of those when I was younger, it was absolutely terrible. What I always used to do is crank it RIGHT before I went to bed, and then I would wake up and the pain would be gone for the day (until I did it again later that night…)
Since you are going to the orthodontist on Monday, be sure to tell him about the problem and see if something moved around in your mouth or some part was installed incorrectly. I never remember my teeth hurting from that device, just the roof of my mouth and jaw.

Ice cream or buy some wax and place it around the sticking out metals.
