How hot is 350 degree oil? What setting on an electric stove should I use for this?

I'm frying something in a pan, and the recipe calls for cooking it in oil heated to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Unfortunately, I don't have a way to measure the oil's temperature. My electric stove has a dial that ranges from 1 to 10, with 10 being the hottest setting. At what setting should I adjust the dial to achieve an approximate temperature of 350 degrees for the oil?

Every kitchen should have a thermometer! You should get a thermometer that measures things like oil, water, etc., and one that you stick into food that measures the internal temperature of your meats.

I would say medium-high would be about 350 degrees. If you find your food is cooking too fast, or getting too brown, turn it down a tad. Good luck!

I'm frying something in a pan ... it says to cook it in 350 degree oil. I have no way of measuring its temperature. But my stove is electric and has a dial going from 1 - 10, 10 being the hottest. What setting should I put it on to make it this temperature?

Thanks for your question. I bought a thermometer but wanted to know where to set the stove to start. I'll use 5 (med. on my stove) and adjust from there. Let you know where I end up.

usually if one is to fry at home, u need a thermometer to stick into the pot to read and gage the temp. of hte oil. the more one puts into the hot oil, the temperature goes down and takes a bit to get back up. hte lower temps usually end up making the item greasy.

Sorry, you need a thermometer that you can put in the oil to get the right temp.....the reason you NEED the right temp is so that the object you are frying doesn't absorb the grease if it's too cold and doesn't burn if it's too hot---also you use different oils for different temps.
