You have to know the formula : n = m / M
where, n = number of moles
m = given mass
M = Molar mass of the substance.
In this case, n = ?
m = 17.5 g
M = molar mass of Sodium = 22.9897
So, number of moles, n = 17.5 / 22.9897 = 0.7612 or 0.76 moles.
Note: There is another formula you MUST know N = n x NA
where, N = number of particles (atoms, molecules, etc),
n = number of moles
NA = Avogadro’s Number: 6.023 * 10 ^ 23
