An average adult has 206 bones. Some people have an extra rib or two and may have more bones in their hands and feet.

Total bone weight depends on how much the person's entire body weighs. Bones make up about 15% of a person's total body weight. For example, the bones of a person weighing 100 pounds would weigh about 15 pounds.

The average height of a woman in the USA is 5 feet 4 inches. And the average weight is about 130 pounds .... then 15% of that is .... 19.5 pounds.

As for the Blue whale skeleton, contact the curator of the Seymour Marine Discovery Center at the first site below. They current hold the only nearly complete Blue whale skeleton in the world (at 87 feet long). They did not list the mass of the bones. Based upon the body mass of an average adult, I would guess the skeleton to have a mass of about 25 metric tons. Craseonycteris thonglongyai, the hog-nosed bat, has a total adult body weight of 1.5 to 2.0 grams. The typical skeleton is about 0.25 to .45 grams. Humans are a different problem. The typical numbers given for an adult skeleton amount to about 20 percent of the total body mass. This is for "fresh bone", with the marrow intact. The dried bones (such as for a display specimen) are usually 20 percent lighter. The average weight for males in the USA is about 190 pounds. For women about 165 pounds. For men, a fresh skeleton would weight 38 pounds or 30.4 pounds dried. For women, 33 pounds fresh and 26.4 when dried. This does not take into account osteoporosis.
