How much is an old Krauss piano worth?

What is the estimated value of an old Krauss piano? Are there specific factors that influence its worth, such as age, condition, and historical significance?

This question gets asked way too often, and always without details.

How Much Is It Worth?

Ultimately, something is worth only as much as someone will pay for it. Piano prices vary greatly depending on the locale and the particular situation.

The value of a piano also depends very much on how knowledgeable the seller and potential buyers are. For every piano, there is what I would call an “informed value” and an “ignorant value.” The informed value takes into account the technical quality and condition of the piano, whereas the ignorant value does not, being based primarily on how the piano case looks (if even that). Unfortunately, the ignorant value is more often than not what the piano actually sells for.

Krauss is an old make from Germany. Don’t know if you are looking to buy or sell. Overwhelming odds are that it has little value, sorry to say. The market for pianos is very bad these days, especially for older ones. If it is a grand, it may be of interest to someone. If it is an upright, you may have trouble selling it for any price. If it is a very old piano with a bird cage action, then it has serious problems as an instrument and has more value simply as a nice looking piece of furniture.

Check all the sources for piano sales in your local market, talk to teachers, tuners, piano stores. See if you can get any interest. If you are considering buying the piano, definitely have a professional inspect it for you first.

Good luck!

I think the piano is a great instrument. No, it’s not too late to start. I started playing 2 months before I turned 15. If you practice and stick with it, it should go well. Depending on your aptitude for music and piano in itself, you might find the difficulty curve not steep enough. As with any instrument, you’ll eventually get to the point where improvements are no longer big jumps, but more of an incremental crawling. The more musically orientated you are, the more instruments you play the higher chance you have of finding a successful career in music.
