How to do 432 divided by 12 by hand?
Could you please explain the process for performing the division of 432 by 12 by hand? I would appreciate it if you could show your work step by step. Thank you!

Hi Gatita,This is the layout that I use; by long division:…………3 6 ……_________1 2 ) 4 3 2……..3 6…….._____………..7 2………..7 2…….._____(The . is only for spacing.)What I’m doing is simply finding out how many time twelve may be in the first few integers of the number. Divide 43 by 12; the maximum 12 can go into 43 is 3x of 12, which is 36, for 4 is too small. Place 3 in the quotient above the column 3 is in because we are dividing from there. Now subtract the 43 – 36 and put the remainders together, taking the 2 down. (the reason I omitted 2 from the previous step is only to avoid confusion for subtraction process.) The remainders put together is 72. Now repeat the process; divide 72 by 12, which is 6. I place 6 above the column 2 is in to make up the final quotient.Hope this helps, use this setting out and there is hardly anywhere you can go wrong!NB: If you are left with a remainder, you must state it, either as:For example:4521 / 12……………9= 376 ———-……………12= 376*3/4or376 r9as required.
nobody teaches this any moreI cannot even draw the |—— sign on the screen1) division is multiplication in reverse, and also 2)it is repeated subtraction3) it is also a game of “Guess what”4) long division, what you are trying to do is an “algorithm” or shorthand way to write many stepsmultiplication is addition many times; 4 x 3 = 4 + 4 + 4 = 12short multiplication is learning the “times tables” and memorizing 4 x 3 = 12Division is the reverse ; 12 divided by 4 means : 4 x ? = 12. If you remember 4 x3 = 12 then 12/4 = 3If you do NOT remember, then division is repeated subtraction; 12 – 4 =8 (once) 8 – 4 = 4 (twice)4- 4 = 0. (third time),end 12 /4 = 3It gets harder with larger numbers but remember the ten times table 12 x 10 = 120So 120 divided by 4 = (12 x 10) divided by 4 so (12/4 x 10) = 3 x 10 = 30you just start dividing the easy partNotice that 13 / 4 = 3 with something left over , you would find that by the subtraction methodnow try 432/ 12 = (43 x 10 + 2) / 12I remember 12 x 3 = 36 which is smaller than 43 and also 12 x 4 = 48 which is bigger than 43So my first guess is 12 ( 3 x 10) = 360but there is still 432- 360 = 72 left to be divided by 12 . 72/12 : notice 72 is smaller than 12 x 1 x10now I can guess 72/ 12 : I remember 12 x 5 = 60 and 12 x 6 = 72 so 72/12 = 6Now I can say 432 / 12 = ( 3 x 10 + 6) TEST IT 36 x 12 = (long hand or calculator= 432Study the steps and ideas carefully.IT IS MUCH EASIER TO WRITE : 12 into 432guess 12x 30 and get 360 write that under the 432like this 432 360 —– 72next write 12 into 72 = 6 underneath the 7272 – 12 x6 = 0 finishedthat is the long hand way to do division if it did not come out “even” you would have to put in a decimal point and keep doing the same thinge-m me for more help: I assume you are a grade school studentIf you are in high school you should sue your old school for not teaching anything
It is difficult to “show” on Yahoo!Answers, but here is the method:take digits from the left and try to divide small chunks into the dividend.4324: does it divide by 12? noso we add the next digit (3):43: does it divide by 12? yesit fits 3 times with a remainder of 7To the 7, we tack on the next digit (2):72 goes into 12, 6 times, with no remainder.Final answer (combine the two digits we got) = 36. with no remainder.432 divided by 12 = 36, exactly
do 43/12, 3×12= 36, the closest you can get to it, so you’re “FIRST DIGIT=3”, but you have a remainder of that multiplication of 7, drag the 2 down to follow and you have ’72’. Do 72 divided by 12, that’s evenly 6, so your final answer is 36 without a remainder.
