The correct answer is D. The Democratic Republic of the Congo's defense minister established a dictatorship and renamed the country as Zaire.Explanation:In 1960, Belgium discontinued its colonial administration and the Republic of Congo was formed. On August 1, 1964, the name was changed to the Democratic Republic of Congo. The new state's first regime became short-lived, as in 1965 Joseph-Desire Mobutu seized power through a military coup.Mobutu initiated an Africanization process to cut ties with the colonial power. He changed his name to a more African Mobutu Sese Seko and changed the country's name from the Democratic Republic of Congo to Zaire.Everything reminiscent of colonialism was exchanged, for example the names of the country's cities: Leopoldville was changed to Kinshasa, Stanleyville became Kisangani, Elisabethville became Lubumbashi, Jadotville was changed to Likasi and Albertville was renamed Kalemie.
