Identify the Lewis acid and the Lewis base in each of the following reactions?

a) [Fe]3+(aq) + 6 H2O(l) [Fe(H2O)6]3+(aq)For a) apparently its neither Fe3+ nor [Fe(H2O)6]3+ for Lewis Acid, as it (the online review practice test) has marked me wrong on both answers, I don't know why... it should be [Fe(H2O)6]3+ right?(b) H2O(l) + CN -(aq) HCN(aq) + OH -(aq)In b) the Lewis acid is NOT water (H2O) but the base is [CN]- guaranteed(c) HgI2(s) + 2 I -(aq) HgI42-(aq)Lastly, in c) it wont accept [HgI2s] nor [I]- as a Lewis acid.... but the Lewis base is [I]- for sure.

(a) Fe+3 is a Lewis acid; I don't know why that is not the correct answer. Water is a Lewis base here.(b) Cyanide is a Lewis base. I suppose H+ could be the Lewis acid here.(c) Hg+2 is a Lewis acid. Both HgI2 and HgI4(2-) are Lewis acids.Is it possible that the questions have two possible answers? Otherwise, I would have to disagree with the computer on this one.... Show More
