yes. He is a doctor/psychologist, but not a medical psychiatrist. That makes him credible as a counselor. very credible. He had to spend years getting these degrees and hundreds of hours doing counseling to get these certificates, and re-certifications every 2 years or so. I was on the same path, and I did not make it to graduating only an M.A. He is to be respected for those accomplishments alone! I have a BS in Psych and 1/2 an M.A. in experimental social psychology (which means I am a failed counselor)."Dr. Phil has a B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. in clinical psychology from North Texas State University with a dual area of emphasis in clinical and behavioral medicine.
