As no compiled data is available online that addresses the average pressure of a human fart, unofficial sources believe that it does not exceed 4 psi.

Flatulence, commonly known as "passing wind" or "farting," is the expulsion of gas from the digestive system through the rectum. It is a normal biological process and is something everyone experiences regularly. Some individuals pass gas only a few times a day, while others do so much more frequently; however, the average is said to be about 5 to 15 times a day.

During digestion, food particles pass from the stomach to the small intestine, where the majority of food absorption occurs. Undigested particles then move into the large intestine and colon, where bacteria break them down. This bacterial fermentation ultimately releases the main components of intestinal gas, also known as flatus.

According to gastroenterologists, carbohydrates such as sugars, starches, and fibers produce the most gas in the colon, as they are not absorbed as completely in the small intestine. This is why vegans and vegetarians tend to be more flatulent than their meat-eating counterparts.

Primarily composed of carbon dioxide, flatus also contains a diverse blend of non-smelling gases, including oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen, and sometimes methane.
