Question about clogged arteries?

I’ve had periods where I eat well, but more often than not, I’ve fallen into less healthy eating habits. My question is: how can I determine if there’s any buildup, like plaque, in my arteries? Is there a way to measure or assess how much buildup might be present?

Also, why isn’t there an approved medical procedure to safely break down and remove plaque from arteries? For example, we use products like CLR to clean grime from bathtubs or Drano to clear clogged sinks—why isn’t there something analogous for arteries?

I’m 38 years old, so I assume any testing or treatment for this wouldn’t be covered by insurance and would likely involve seeking out a private clinic. I’m not entirely sure why this feels so important to me, but I’d really like to understand more about this. Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Unlike drains, arteries are constantly being renewed so the clogging analogy is not to be taken literally. As others say junior asprin can thin the blood, and statins help with keeping things clear so this is one to take to your doctor if you are worried to get a blood test. Avoid saturated fats in your diet: I threw away my frying pan decades ago and microwave everything without any animal fat.

Merely take a baby aspirin once a day and your worries are over.

Statins are the answer to clogged arteries. Sometimes aspirin is prescribed as well.

A simple blood test will determine your cholesterol levels. Avoid all animal fats especially full fat milk, ᴮᵁᵀᵀer and lard.
