Read the passage from "To Autumn":

"Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness,
Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun;
Conspiring with him how to load and bless
With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eaves run;
To bend with apples the moss'd cottage-trees,
And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core;
To swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shells
With a sweet kernel; to set budding more,
And still more, later flowers for the bees,
Until they think warm days will never cease,
For Summer has o'er-brimm'd their clammy cells."

What imagery and themes does John Keats use in this passage to evoke the essence of autumn? How do these literary elements contribute to the overall tone and mood of the poem?

I think the answer is D. The author uses imagery and personificationSince it says that fruit runs, I think this is the correct answer.
John Keats's poem "To Autumn" describes different cycles of autumn. The excerpt is related to the first cycle - fruitfulness where the lines personify autumn as being a friend to the Sun. It is a close friendship as they act together or conspire together producing a rich harvest. The first cycle depicts the growth of life - the harvest of autumn and therefore we can single out the third option from multiple-choices. The correct answer is the third option.

The correct answer is D. The author uses imagery and personification to make autumn seem friendly and generous to the reader.Imagery is the formation of mental images, figures, or likenesses of things or of such images collectively. And personification is the attribution of a personal nature or human characteristics to something nonhuman. In this case, the author is describing how there is mist in this season and mellow fruitfulness, and explains how the season and the sun are friends that together bring the fruit to the vines and apples to the trees, filling them with ripeness. The descriptions make the reader create the images (imagery) and the way of how the sun and the season "conspire" is related to personification.

Rhyming "fruitfulness" and "bless" emphasizes the positive aspects of autumn.

The author uses metaphor and simile to compare autumn to various elements found in nature. This is a style of writing that enables the reader to creatively imagine or even vividly imagine the scene that is being depicted by the author. Reading such passage stimulates thoughts that are attuned with what autumn must have look and felt like.
