Read this excerpt from Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. Shall i respect man, when he condemns me?

Read this excerpt from Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein": "Shall I respect man when he condemns me? Let him live with me in the interchange of kindness, and instead of injury, I would bestow every benefit upon him with tears of gratitude at his acceptance. But that cannot be; the human senses are insurmountable barriers to our union. Yet mine shall not be the submission of abject slavery. I will revenge my injuries: if I cannot inspire love, I will cause fear."

What do the following lines from the excerpt indicate about the creature's interaction with humans: "But that cannot be; the human senses are insurmountable barriers to our union"?

A. Humans cannot hear what he says.
B. He lacks the power to communicate.
C. He finds humans incapable of kindness.
D. His appearance repels humans.

The answer is: His appearance repels humansAccording to the excerpt from Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein," the monster's outward aspect is so appalling that it becomes an obstacle to approach and connect with humans. Therein, the creature describes to his creator how he feels after people are horrified by him and abuse him. So even though he is gentle and wishes to be loved, he decides to rebel and become the monster everyone believes he is.

I would personally choose C. In the excerpt, it basically says that he won't respect men who disprove of him, that want to use him as a slave because he is different than them so he will cause fear and distress rather than kindness and love.

It could be said that this excerpt indicates that his appearance repels humans (option D) .They do not comprehend him because of its looks. It seems that the only solution was to create a female companion for him , she would be the only one the monster could be with him.
The best answer is D) His appearance repels humans.       Frankenstein's monster is a man who is, by human standards, hideous, terrifying, and assumed by his appearance to be a dangerous brute. For this reason, the human senses, especially the sight of him, repels humans and serves as a barrier to his ability to connect with humans and show them kindness.
