Skin that scratches off easily and bleeds a lot?
I came across a similar question here from a woman over 55 experiencing the same issue. However, I’m only 44, and I’ve recently noticed that whenever I scratch anywhere on my body, my skin comes off easily, leading to bleeding. The resulting sores take an unusually long time to heal and leave unsightly scars.
Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this? Unfortunately, my medical insurance situation makes visiting a doctor challenging. To make matters worse, my coworkers have even joked that I look like a meth addict, which is hurtful and embarrassing. I use large amounts of moisturizers—truly, I go through a lot—but nothing seems to help.
Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated!

My skin is very thin, also and I need to be careful about scratching it, or it will bleed. (It began to be that way about your age.)
The first thing to do is to not scratch...that was the advice I got from the dermatologist. That frustrated me, no end. However, he explained to me that the scratching actually created more itching. What a pain! You need to work on getting the sores healed. Aloe Vera is great, but sesame oil is even better and it feels good, too.
He also advised me that the best time to apply the lotion was right after bathing, "grease yourself up" he said.
My best solution for itchy, dry skin [yep, thats me most of the time] is to rub sesame oil all over (even your scalp, if possible--I get dry patches that itch like mad there) BEFORE bathing.
After the bath or shower, put on lotions. That way, you'll really be 'greased up' and your skin will absorb better. Use good brands especially for dry skin.
Another very important thing, is to shower off with cool water before getting out of the bath or shower. That closes the pores--very important to the health of your skin.
Also, apply lotion at bedtime. (My manicurist recommended it, because of the dry skin on my hands. She told me that she uses vaseline--I don't think I could, tho)

A lot of dogs get 'hot spots' Where something really bothers them and they chew, or scratch it until it bleeds. You need to bring your dog to the vet, and should have done that first, before putting over the counter medicine on her. That ultimately could have harmed her more then helped.
