“How Can I Help You To Say Goodbye” by Patty Loveless is great. It start with the singer as a little girl who is just moving away from her best friend, and the last verse is when the mother dies.

Ok, if you are both female, I have got to say “Shuffleboard Queens” by a comedic/folk singer named Dierdre Flint. I believe the song is available on her site dierdreflint.com. I heard her years ago on a college campus tour, and the song is about how her best friend moved away, and even if they cannot live by each other now, when they are old they will live near each other, enjoying all their dreams and being silly old women. I know it sounds kind of strange, but it is a great song. My bestest friend in the whole world lives a thousand miles away, and it is “our song,” if friends can have songs.

If you’re not both girls… I guess you could go for something sort of common like “Wind Beneath my Wings.” try to think of something that you really like about your friend, or a song that reminds you of something you did together. One summer, “Brown Eyed Girl” seemed to be on the radio every time my oldest friend Alyssa was with me, and since she has pretty brown eyes, that song always makes me think of her now.

Sorry your friend is moving away! Long distance friendships can work though~that’s why they made nights and weekend minutes! ?

my absolute best friend is leaving in 2 weeks. and i was wondering if anyone had some good ideas for songs about best friends leaving? i really really NEED this. i’d most prefer classic/alternative rock stuff. but pop and country is all right too..
