Steampunk, Dieselpunk, and Cyberpunk. What’s the difference?

Basically, Steampunk, Dieselpunk, and Cyberpunk are all types of subgenres punk culture.Steampunk is set around the 1800 hundreds and mixed with futuristic technology.Dieselpunk is set around World War One and World War Two fashions. Cyberpunk is set in the far off future, with fantasy technology.This is just my previous knowledge. I found this wiki site that lists even more punk culture genres and describes them all. I would have thought this was pretty much common knowledge by now but I guess not. Cyberpunk is a subgenre of science fiction that is set in the near future. It deals with a dytopian society and is very atmospheric. The main protagonist in cyberpunk stories are usually people who aren’t perfect like most good guys are, they’re flawed and ride the edge of what is legal. Hackers and street life are common, and is a mix of high tech low life. Some good examples of cyberpunk are the movie Blade Runner, the TV show Max Headroom, and the video games Deus Ex, and Deus Ex: Human Revolution.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CyberpunkSteampunk is an alternate history subgenre of science fiction. It takes places during the Victorian era, which is also know as the era of steam power. It’s a retro future that has lots of technology that wasn’t really available then, hence the term alternate history. It is also retro futuristic. It is actually closer to cyberpunk that steampunk though it seems to be lumped together with steampunk more often. Dieselpunk is also heavy on computer technology, and usually involves a dytopian society that is oppressed by someone or something. it is basically cyberpunk as seen through a art deco/film noir/pulp fiction filter.
