Is it safe to take Xanax while taking Relora?

I am currently taking Xanax twice a week for anxiety and panic disorder. I am interested in trying Relora to see if it can help manage my symptoms, as Xanax is highly addictive. However, I need to know if it is safe to take Xanax if I experience a panic attack while on Relora. Can anyone provide guidance on the safety of combining these two substances?

No, I would not take these two together. If you check with your physician and receive approval, it may be fine, but otherwise, do not do it. I used to work for a psychiatrist who had many patients on Xanax as well as other anti-anxiety and anti-depression medications. She always advised her patients to avoid any natural or herbal supplements while on these drugs, simply because you can never be certain of these supplements, as they are not under the control of the FDA. In combination with other medications, you simply cannot know how they will affect you.

In fact, regarding Relora, one of the typical side effects listed is anxiety. It is also noted that depression can be a side effect. Please check with your prescribing physician before trying this.

Relora is marketed as a stress reducer that may lead to weight loss. However, the ingredients are proprietary and have not been subjected to scientific study. There is no reliable way to know how it would interact with Xanax or any other medication. It may or may not work as advertised.

Xanax is an anti-anxiety medication that is taken every 8 hours as needed, not twice a week. It is habit-forming, as are all benzodiazepines.
